If you were really feeling hard as nails you could add -overwrite_original to the exiftool command and it would not keep original copies of all the files you have probably just ruined. The Newlines probably won't work in Windoze, don't know, don't care, Google probably knows. That command will write into the User Comments field ( which I can see in Lightroom ) something like : You could use exiftool to write tag values to data fields that ARE displayed by Lightroom:Įxiftool '- UserComment < Focus mode : $ The MakerNotes group is a real pickle, a can of worms, a nightmare realm that no sane person would ever enter - I spend a lot of time there, I am writing a frontend Mac app for Exfitool for normal human folks - if I survive, i will let you know the details. There are so many EXIF, and IPTC tags, Lightroom ain't not never gonna be able to display them all. Sorry mate but if you think typing exiftool -afmode is not easy then you are going to be dissapointed. The easiest way to found out what tag names are lurking in your files is to just call exiftool with a filename, I like to use exiftool -G -t (filename) because it gives the Group names and outputs in tabbed format so I can work with the results. ( the dot will process all files in the current folder ) Just call exiftool with a list of the EXIF tags you want to display, let's say I wanted file name, raw image sizes, shadow tone, focus mode, and autofocus mode then this command:Įxiftool -filename -rawimagewidth -rawimageheight -shadowtone -focusmode -Afmode. Renaming your photos requires that your photos must contain metadata as that is where exiftool renaming is based upon. pyExifToolGui is a python pySide QT4 script program that reads and writes metadata like exif, xmp, gps, gpano tags from/to image files. Exiftool can be a bit scarey, it is amazingly powerful, but a really simple command will do what you want. This manual is for pyExifToolGUI (version 0.32, January 2013). I don't know much about how Lightroom deals with EXIF data but I would bet 27p that it does not display Maker Notes data.
